In February of this year, my Twitter tribe was low, only a couple hundred at the most. As of this posting, my Twitter tribe has exploded to over 2,000 people. Less than six months and my Twitter tribe has tripled. Here’s my secret…
I didn’t buy any followers, ask for follows, beg, or trick anyone into following me. I was simply social and focused on being both a content creator and a content curator. By the way, you can follow me on Twitter here.
Using some basic strategies, I tripled my Twitter tribe in less than six months and you can, too.
Follow people in your industry and interest sphere
I made an intentional effort to follow and connect with people inside the content and marketing sphere. I didn’t just add people for the sake of boosting my numbers. I only focused on people whose roles and relationships have a direct connection to my role with Keynote Content.
Be social on social media
What a novel idea! Many businesses and entrepreneurs don’t fully embrace the social side of social media. Too many people post their content on social media and ignore any engagement. Did someone retweet, favorite, or reply to your tweet? Respond to them! If they followed you, tweet a thank you. If they retweeted you, that’s social gold! Make a big deal that they took the time to share your content. I make it a point to tweet, reply, comment, and share other people’s great content.
Create a Twitter strategy
I initially used a combination of Buffer and HootSuite, but then switched to Buffer entirely for my Twitter postings. I set two different times each work day (9:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.) to create and curate content for Twitter. I also create content throughout the day between meetings, emails, and client projects.
Treat Twitter like a discipline
A lot of businesses and entrepreneurs treat social media like it’s a gym membership: sure, I have one, but I rarely ever use it. It takes time and work to develop your Twitter tribe. The more time you devote to it, the bigger and better your tribe will be.
